An airsoft GPS tracker app puts every player on your side on one map. You see where your squad is, where the other squads are, and where someone spotted the enemy. The phone already knows its own position from satellites. The hard part is getting that position to your teammates on a field where mobile data comes and goes.
What TacLink tracks
- Friendly positions for everyone on your side, with the age of each one.
- Enemy markers. Double-tap the map where you saw movement.
- Squad pins. Long-press to mark a spot for your squad.
- Player status. Alive, Dead or Medic.
- Orders from the Commander or your Squad leader, with a point on the map.
The other side sees none of it. Organizers and staff see all sides.
Tracking with the phone in your pocket
Most players will not hold a phone during a game, and they should not have to. TacLink keeps sharing your position with the screen locked or another app open, for the whole event. Android shows a notification while sharing runs. iOS shows a Live Activity on the lock screen. Sharing stops when the event ends.
GPS uses battery, so TacLink lowers GPS use while you are not moving. Charge the phone before a long game.
Tracking without signal
Joining an event needs signal, which the meeting point usually has. At join the app downloads the event area, the base map for it, the sides, squads and pins. From then on the map works without a network.
During the game, phones on your side that are near each other swap positions, markers, orders and status over Bluetooth. If one phone on the side has signal, it bridges the side to the server and brings back the rest of the picture. Mesh range is squad range, tens of metres per hop, with phones relaying for each other. Each marker shows whether it is live, relayed or from the mesh, and how old it is.
How players join
The organizer creates the event on the web and prints one QR code per side. Players sign in with Apple or Google, pick a callsign, and scan their side’s code. That is the whole setup.
Price
Free for players, with no ads. An event up to 15 players is free for the organizer too. Above that the organizer pays once per event, from 15 EUR. See pricing.
